The Southern District Military Court sentenced the resident of Ingushetia Akhmed Imagozhev in the criminal case of the attack on the traffic police post in Magas in 2019, informs press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General’s Office for the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasus Federal District. Imagozhev was sentenced to 27 years of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony, followed by restriction of freedom for 1 year. The convict will spend the first five years in prison. He was found guilty of encroachment on the life of a policeman (Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). 25-year-old Akhmed Imagozhev was the Russian armwrestling champion. He is also the brother of the popular in the Caucasus singer Suleiman Imagozhev, who performed under the stage name Daniel Pride and participated in the qualifying round for Eurovision.
According to the investigation, Akhmed Imagozhev was a member of the Islamic State terrorist organization. On December 31, 2019, he and a friend in a Lada Granta car entered to the traffic police post, knocking down two police officers. Then the men armed with knives attacked the traffic police officers. The criminals killed two police officers, and two more employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured. Imagozhev tried to cut off the head of one wounded man, informs Kommersant.
An accomplice of Imagozhev was an 18-year-old guard of the Center for Cultural Development Mikail Miziev. He was shot by the police, and the wounded Imagozhev was taken to the hospital.
One of the victims of the attack was Police Senior Lieutenant Zelimkhan Kokorkhoev.
Mikail Miziev’s father, Khizar Miziev, was the director of the republican Center for Cultural Development, in which he worked as a security guard. Miziev Sr. was going to nominate himself for the post of Minister of Culture of Ingushetia.
Another son of Khizar Miziev, Magomed Miziev, also died during a terrorist attack, wrote EADaily agency. In October 2017, he wounded three DPS guards in the village of Yandar near Nazran, after which he was shot. According to law enforcement agencies, Magomed Miziev was a member of the Islamic State.
