1. About the peace-loving rhetoric and aggressive policy of the United States

Regarding Joe Biden’s speech in connection with the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, where the US President said that “the era of power restructuring of sovereign states is ending,” Patrushev noted:

“Let me remind you that practically every American president has made such statements for the last hundred years. Perhaps you know the expression “the war that ends all wars”? So, this formulation belongs to Woodrow Wilson, he used it when he urged fellow citizens to support his decision on the entry of the United States into the First World War. And after that, the Americans have fought more wars than any other country. “

In fact, the phrase “the war that will end war” belongs tot to the classic of British literature H.G. Wells. This is the title of his 1914 journalistic book, in which he collected his newspaper articles about the war. The phrase reflects the illusions of that time – the idea that after the horrors of the world war, mankind will no longer be able to return to this path. During the First World War, the phrase gained popularity, it was often quoted, and Woodrow Wilson also quoted it in 1917.

Patrushev’s statement about the wars unleashed by the United States is highly doubtful. The United States in the XX and XXI centuries participated in a number of armed conflicts, but almost never initiated them. The Korean War of 1950-1953 began with an attack by North Korea on South Korea, North Korean troops captured Seoul, and only then the United States, with the support of the UN Security Council, intervened in the war. Similarly, in South Vietnam, since the early 1960s, guerrilla groups supported and armed by the communist authorities of North Vietnam have launched a full-scale war, and only after the failure of American attempts at a peaceful settlement, the United States decided to support the government of the South with military means. Now in the United States, the attitude towards the Vietnamese intervention has been established as a monstrous mistake.

Almost all of the later US military operations were either support for legitimate governments faced with armed aggression or a military coup (in El Salvador, Grenada, the Persian Gulf, Haiti), or support for minorities against which governments criminally used military force (in Yugoslavia, Syria). The intervention in Afghanistan was a response to al-Qaeda attacks on US soil. Only the war in Iraq, which began in 2003, can be regarded as unleashed by the United States.

2. About the Irish, sold into slavery by the British

“After leaving the European Union, London with a vengeance began to implement the Global Britain project. However, before taking on the revival of former imperial greatness, the British would do well to deal with the problems at home. A significant number of people in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland still do not consider themselves British. For centuries the British drove the Scots into the mountains, the Welsh were used as cheap labor, the Irish were taken out to work in the colonies as slaves.

Patrushev echoes the myth of the Irish slaves that has spread in recent years. Reuters fact checkers in 2020 followed the origins of the myth; he first appeared in 2008 in an article signed by a certain John Martin, whose identity cannot be identified – most likely, it is a pseudonym. The article referred to a decree of King James I, allegedly issued in 1625, on sending Irish political prisoners to the West Indies and selling them to the English colonists there as slaves. It also said that in the years 1641-1652, 300,000 Irish were sold into slavery. Historians claim that no trace of such a royal decree exists, and the figures from Martin’s article are completely implausible: no more than 165,000 people moved from Britain to the West Indies from 1630 to 1775.

3. About the “Crimean Platform” as an American project

“The Crimean Platform was created by Washington for the appearance of caring for the interests of Ukraine.”

In reality, the US has clearly shown little interest in this Ukrainian initiative. At the summit of the “Crimean Platform” in Kiev, USA represented Energy Minister Jennifer Granholm, while Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Slovenia, Finland were represented by presidents, Slovakia, Romania, Georgia, Croatia, Sweden – by prime ministers, Turkey, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Ireland, Bulgaria, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal – by foreign ministers, the European Union – by the President of the European Council and Deputy Chairman of the European Commission.
