CIA assistant head diagnosed with “Havana syndrome” after a trip to India

[ad_1]

A US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer who accompanied the agency’s director, William Burns, on a trip to India in early September, sought medical attention thereafter. He was diagnosed with symptoms of the “Havana Syndrome”, which, according to Washington, is the result of malicious actions on the part of Russia.

The “Indian” incident caused alarm among the American authorities. William Burns, according to one CNN source, was angry… In Washington, they saw in the incident a “message” that now even people from the circle of the director of the CIA cannot feel safe. At the same time, it is not clear how the attackers could find out about the visit of the head of the CIA and prepare for it in order to use an unknown non-lethal weapon.

The CIA spokesman said that the agency does not comment on specific incidents, but intends to do everything possible to protect its employees.

Over the past month, the Havana Syndrome has been reported twice in connection with overseas travel by US senior officials. In August, US Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Vietnam was postponed after several US officials showed signs of Havana Syndrome. At least two of them required medical attention.

Cases of Havana Syndrome have been reported since late 2016, when Washington accused Moscow of meddling in elections. In total, about 200 US officials and their families have experienced the Havana Syndrome. It is accompanied by headaches, nausea, memory lapses, and dizziness.

The first incidents occurred in Cuba, and later were recorded in Russia, China, Austria, Germany, and even in the United States. Thus, two employees of the US National Security Council under President Donald Trump were allegedly exposed to weapons that cause the “Havana Syndrome” right at the entrance to the White House.

At the beginning of last summer, the US intelligence community launched a major investigation into the Havana Syndrome. It will be completed by the end of the year, but the results of the investigation will not be published.

According to a CIA spokesman, the best experts are involved in the investigation. The head of the investigative group “has been engaged in the fight against terrorism for more than ten years.” This work ultimately helped to find and neutralize “terrorist number 1” in the world, Osama bin Laden.

Scientists at the US National Academy of Sciences hold the theory that “Havana Syndrome” is caused by “directed pulsed radio frequency energy.” Doctors also believed that the injuries to American diplomats were the consequences of directed microwave radiation.

According to William Burns, it is “most likely” that the syndrome is caused by deliberate actions by the Russian authorities, transfers Reuters.

Earlier, Cuban experts presented the results of an investigation into the “Havana syndrome” found in American diplomats working on the island. Presumably, people were exposed to sonic weapons, with long-term health consequences. The experts concluded that American employees in Havana may have been feeling ill “for various medical reasons.” They had some problems even before the trip to Cuba.
