The mass media of the Krasnodar Territory and the Rostov Region report on the visit of foreign observers who have declared the democratic and transparent nature of the elections to the State Duma. However, these foreigners do not have official status – they do not represent their states or large international structures. These observers included marginal, pro-Russian far-right politicians, conspiracy theorists, and dissidents of the Covid community. writes “Caucasus. Realities”.
“They were invited by the Public Chamber of Russia and the Russian Society of Political Scientists, – informs Don-24. – Specialists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kenya, Austria and France work in the Don region. The members of the commission are journalists, political scientists, politicians and even the former vice-mayor of the city of Linz. “
“Expert” from Austria Deathlef Wimmer in 2015-2019 was the deputy mayor of Linz, which is home to about 200 thousand people. He was the district party leader and member of the federal council of the Austrian Freedom Party, an ultra-right populist party founded by former Wehrmacht officers and functionaries of the Nazi NSDAP. In 2016, United Russia entered into an alliance with the party founded by former Nazis.
Wimmer regularly visits Russia. He visited the annexed Crimea, in connection with which Kiev banned him from entering the territory of Ukraine.
The presenter of the program on the Sweebbtv channel Jan Magnus Stenlund arrived in the Krasnodar Territory in a group of foreign observers. This American media outlet, which broadcasts on the Internet and via satellite, is the platform of the far-right Alternative for Sweden party. It consists of conspiracy theorists. Among other things, the TV channel claimed that the coronavirus was the product of a global conspiracy. After that, the content was blocked on Youtube.
Another representative of Sweden is Eric Anders Almqvist, who opposed the arrival of migrants in the country. A video was also published on the Internet in which Almqvist sings songs of the neo-Nazi movement “white power”. After a series of scandals, he lost his post in the youth wing of the Swedish Liberal Party and moved to Hungary.
André Shanklu, the leader of the France-Donbass association and the plenipotentiary representative of the LPNR in France, also arrived in Rostov-on-Don. This association is little known in the European Union, but it is widely advertised by the Russian media.
By inviting political outcasts from Europe, the Russian authorities “imitate international election observation,” says Mikhail Savva, head of the Ukrainian Sova expert group, political analyst.
For the first time since 1993, OSCE representatives have not attended the Russian elections. For sanitary and epidemiological reasons, Russia limited the number of observers from the organization, after which the OSCE announced that it would not send its observers to the elections.
