The ruling on bringing Platonova as a defendant said that the defendants in the criminal case in the Telegram chat “systematically discussed the strategy of providing psychological influence and indoctrination of the audience in order to arouse the desire, determination and motivation of an indefinite circle of people to participate in mass riots.” Platonova herself denies participation in these events.
On September 16 in the evening the security forces spent search in the apartment of Chebanov’s common-law wife Zhanna Chernova. According to OVD-Info, Chernov is also accused of inciting riots.
Another person involved in the case from St. Petersburg is Vyacheslav Abramov. His wife told OVD-Info that the security forces searched their houses and confiscated opposition stickers from her husband.
On September 17, it became known about the arrest of Alexey Yanochkin from Krasnoyarsk. His house was also searched.
Later that day, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow detained Chebanov, his associate Nikita Kreshchuk, Alexei Kurlov and Zhanna Chernov. Maria Platonova was placed under house arrest.
What is known about the Telegram channel
The main accused Chebanov, according to OVD Info, is the founder of the Telegram channel “What to do!”… The channel was created in February, the first recordings appeared in May. In August, the channel announced an all-Russian protest action “without criminal components, but inherently daring.” The action took place on September 5. Participants of the action went out into the street and lit flares, videos from different cities were published in the channel.
September 6 Chebanova detained for trying to hang a banner on the building of the Central Children’s World on Lubyanka. Four more people were detained with Chebanov: Nikita Kreshchuk, Alexander Kuranin, Alexander Poruchenko and Natalya Poruchenko. Khreshchuk later became a defendant in the case of declining to riot.
The next day, a video message from Chebanov appeared on the channel: “If you are watching this video now, then I was arrested. But this only says that we are on the right track and that we have seriously scared the Kremlin rats. They are shitty afraid of people coming together. This is their worst nightmare. They test animals with fear of popular anger. I myself go for broke, I suggest you unite and demolish this power this year. I am confident that we will be able to defend our future, the future of our children and close children. “
On September 16, the day when the Investigative Committee announced the initiation of a criminal case, another video message from Chebanov appeared on the channel. In it, he proposes to “stop all movement and block the center” using screws and self-tapping screws. “Not a single paddy wagon should leave with our comrades,” he says.
