The former head of the largest Russian crypto-exchange Wex Dmitry Vasiliev was detained in Warsaw. How writes newspaper Wyborcza, it happened on August 11, but it became known about it only now.

Vasiliev was detained at the Warsaw airport. After that, he was arrested for 40 days by court order. Vasilyeva has been looking for Kazakhstan through Interpol for several years. In this country, a fraud case has been opened against him. The Polish prosecutor’s office is considering the decision to extradite Vasiliev.
In July 2019, Vasiliev was arrested in Italy at the request of Interpol, initiated by the law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan. However, two weeks later the court released him from custody.
Criminal cases have been opened against Vasiliev in Russia, Belarus and China. In all these countries, he is accused of stealing $ 450 million using the Wex exchange. According to the investigation, the money of investors from the EU countries, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan was stolen through it.
Since 2017, Vasiliev has been the director of the Wex cryptocurrency exchange and the owner of the official legal entity of the company, registered in Singapore. In 2018, Vasiliev sold this legal entity to the family of businessman Dmitry Khavchenko. According to the BBC, Vasiliev fought in eastern Ukraine on the side of the separatists under the call sign “Sailor”.
