The Second Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction refused to mitigate the sentence to the actor Mikhail Efremov, who was sentenced to 7.5 years for a fatal traffic accident in the center of Moscow, informs RIA Novosti.

In the complaint, the defense pointed out on “poor health” and “personality disorder” by Efremov, who is serving time in a colony, as well as on alcohol dependence. The lawyers insisted on a mitigating circumstance – the artist’s mental illness, because of which he could not be prosecuted.

At the beginning of June last year, Efremov’s SUV Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed double solid on Smolenskaya Square in the center of Moscow, drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into a van. The driver, courier of the online store “Delikateska.ru” Sergei Zakharov has died.

The examination established that Efremov at the time of the accident was drunk: 2.1 ppm of alcohol was found in his blood (corresponds to a bottle of vodka), as well as traces of cannabis and cocaine.

The Presnensky court sentenced the actor to 8 years in a general regime colony, but the Moscow City Court later cut this period is up to 7.5 years. Efremov is serving a sentence in a colony in the Belgorod Region.
