Russians can apply for a deceased spouse’s pension if its size was higher than their own. About it reported in the Pension Fund of Russia.
“A widowed spouse has the right to retire on the basis of the loss of a breadwinner if he has reached retirement age (subject to transitional provisions) or is recognized as disabled (in other words, is incapacitated),” the FIU noted.
At the same time, the department explained that the fixed payment to the insurance pension in case of the loss of the breadwinner is 50% less than to the old-age pension. Therefore, the widowed spouse will receive a pension that is not in the amount that his husband or wife had.
“A citizen can change his choice at any time and revert to an old-age pension. To do this, you need to submit an application to the Pension Fund, the pension will be assigned from the date of application, ”the Pension Fund said.
To establish a survivor’s pension, the fact of being dependent on the date of the death of a spouse or loss of a source of livelihood is required. Working widowed retirees will not be able to claim the deceased spouse’s pension.
