A resident of Kaliningrad, Antonina Zimina, who, together with her husband, was convicted in a criminal case of high treason, went on a dry hunger strike due to the conditions of detention in the pre-trial detention center.
In the transit cell where she was transferred, “both of the toilet bowls did not work, the sink is leaking.” This is stated in the letter to Zimina, which quotes Znak.com. The convict also reports that four more women joined the dry hunger strike with her. The prisoners appealed to the management of the pre-trial detention center with a complaint about the conditions of detention, but to no avail.
“Attached to the statement are two cockroaches, which we also asked to kill. [Через день] came the opera, who tried to persuade him to withdraw from the hunger strike for a pack of cigarettes, ”writes Antonina Zimina.
When another prisoner was transferred to the cell to the starving, everyone except Zimina stopped the hunger strike. Antonina writes that the new cellmate is putting pressure on her, accusing her of “selling her homeland”, using physical force against her, throwing her personal belongings.
Formerly Antonina’s father toldthat she is being bullied in prison. According to him, an electric shock was used on his daughter and was not allowed to sleep.
In December 2020, the Kaliningrad Regional Court found Antonina Zimina and her husband Konstantin Antonets guilty of high treason. Zimin was sentenced to 13 years in a maximum security colony, and Antonets – to 12.5 years in a maximum security colony. The couple pleaded not guilty.
Antonina Zimina is an expert at the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, and Konstantin Antonets is a former lawyer at the regional ministry of economy.
The materials of the case against the spouses are classified. But the media wrote that they were talking about the transfer of secret data related to the special economic zone of Kaliningrad to Latvian intelligence officers. In addition, the defendants were charged with disclosing the identity of an operative of the Kaliningrad department of the FSB Maxim Denisenko, who was a guest at their wedding. According to the investigation, Zimina and Antonets sent photographs of Denisenko from the celebration to representatives of Latvian intelligence.
The defense argued that the FSB officer during the wedding “was drunk and himself willingly told the guests about his service.”
