As the court established, in December 2020, security forces patrolled the streets in Krasnoarmeysk and stopped the man, suspecting that he was drunk. The police checked the documents and the phone “for the presence of stolen property in the database.” After that, the passer-by dropped the phone, and the police “taking advantage of the situation” took the device. The next day, they arrived in Saratov and through a banking application withdrew 170 thousand rubles from the man’s accounts, and also issued a loan for him in 100 thousand rubles, and the phone itself was thrown away.
The victim noticed the loss of money and went to the police. The security officials pleaded guilty, repented and compensated for the damage.
The former police officers were found guilty of large-scale theft. The first police officer was sentenced to a year and nine months probation, the second received two years probation.
