The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Pskov region demanded to initiate a criminal case on the spread of fakes (Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code) against the chief editor of the “Pskov province” Denis Kamalyagin – at the end of last year, the Ministry of Justice entered him into the register of “foreign agents” media. On the eve of Kamalyagin already caused for interrogation at the Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Combating Extremism (Center “E”). The reason was news “Pskov province” on the spill of chemicals at military exercises near Pskov. In a note dated September 8, citing the press service of the Porkhovsky District Prosecutor’s Office and the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, it was reported that an emergency occurred during the exercises at the training ground in the Strugo-Krasnensky District, due to which four people were injured.
Soon “Pskov province” published refutation… The Ministry of Emergency Situations news named “Fake” and “information stuffing”, noting that the department did not report on the spill of chemicals. The prosecutor’s office, on the release of which the note was written, reported an alleged hack of e-mail. In the Center “E” Kamalyagin statedthat an employee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations filed a complaint against him. The journalist, in turn, indicated that the letter about the spill of chemicals was received by the editorial offices of other media and local administrations.
Chief editor of the “Pskov province” included in the register of media – “foreign agents” in December 2020. Together with him, human rights activist Lev Ponomarev, activist Daria Apakhonchich from St. Petersburg, as well as the journalists of Radio Liberty and 7×7 Sergei Markelov and Lyudmila Savitskaya were included in the first list of natural persons – “foreign agents”. Journalist appealed against status in court, but that admitted the decision of the Ministry of Justice is legal.
