The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) unanimously recognized the liquidation of the National Bolshevik Party (NBP), which was recognized as extremist in 2007 in the Russian Federation, and the refusal to register it as a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. reported on the court website. The ECHR recognized Russia’s actions as a violation of the right to freedom of association in accordance with Art. 11 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. Since Limonov did not live up to the announcement of the court’s decision, compensation of € 10 thousand was awarded to his two children. Other applicants – Alexander Averin, Sergey Fomchenkov, Alexey Volynets and Andrey Dmitriev – will also receive compensation.
By the words of the head the international human rights organization “Agora” by Pavel Chikov, Limonov filed a lawsuit with the ECHR back in 2006. Then the Ministry of Justice refused registration to the NBP 5 times, and a year later the court recognized the party as an extremist organization and banned its activities in Russia.
In March 2009, Limonov announced that he intends to nominate himself for the presidency of Russia in the 2012 elections. However, the CEC later refused to register him. In 2010, the National Bolsheviks founded a new party, The Other Russia, which was also repeatedly denied registration.
The writer Eduard Limonov died on March 17 last year in Moscow at the age of 78.
