DNS is a distributed system for obtaining information about domains. Most commonly used to obtain an IP address from a hostname (computer or device).
Earlier, Roskomnadzor demanded that Google and Apple remove from their stores the Navalny application, which has the Smart Voting function, explaining this by the fact that the Prosecutor General’s Office demands “to restrict access to information resources related to the organization of the Anti-Corruption Fund”. Roskomnadzor said that the application is used “to promote the activities and implementation of activities of extremist organizations.”
In July, Roskomnadzor blocked the websites of Navalny, projects of the Anti-Corruption Foundation and the politician’s regional headquarters. Also, access to the websites of Lyubov Sobol, Leonid Volkov, projects “RosYama”, “Alliance of Doctors” and “RosZhKH” and “Freedom to Navalny” is limited.
The reason for the blocking was Article 15.3 of the Federal Law “On Information”, which provides for the prohibition of resources “containing calls for mass riots, the implementation of extremist activities and participation in mass events.”
In early September, the Moscow Arbitration Court banned Google from displaying the phrase “Smart Voting” in search results as an interim measure in the claim of the Stavropol company Wulintertrade, which sells sheep wool. This is reported in the court decision of September 3. “To prohibit the operator of the search engine Company Google, LLC from using the designation” Smart Vote “in the search results of its own search engine as one of the search keywords,” the document says. A similar decision was made with regard to Yandex.
On June 29, Wulintertrade filed an application for registration of the Smart Voting trademark, which is identical to the name of the project of politician Alexei Navalny, and already on July 27 received the approval of Rospatent. This process usually takes about a year.
