US Ambassador John Sullivan was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry for a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. During the meeting, Ryabkov told the ambassador about the “interference” of American IT companies in the September elections to the State Duma, it says on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ryabkov stressed that Russia has “irrefutable evidence of a violation of Russian law.” However, what kind of evidence in question is not specified on the website of the Foreign Ministry.
In a conversation with RBC, a representative of the US Embassy saidthat Sullivan and Ryabkov discussed “President Biden’s commitment to a stable, predictable relationship with Russia.”
State Duma elections are scheduled for the fall. Simultaneously with them, direct elections of heads of nine regions (in three more subjects they will be elected by deputies) and deputies of 39 regional parliaments should take place. Due to the pandemic, voting this year will be three days – from 17 to 19 September.
