September 2 Regional Court of Rostov-on-Don detained and arrested journalist Bella Nasibyan because of a photo published on Instagram with a poster of the Smart Voting project. The photo, which the journalist posted in the story, showed a poster of the candidate for State Duma deputy Alexander Ryabchuk, in whose election campaign the activist participates, as well as other leaflets and posters, among which was a poster with “Smart Vote”.
Nasibyan was found guilty of propaganda of extremist symbols (part 1 of article 20.3 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation). The protocol noted that “Smart Voting” is a project of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK). On September 3, the court released the journalist from arrest, replacing the arrest with an administrative fine.

On June 9, the Moscow City Court recognized the Anti-Corruption Foundation, the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights (the funds are also recognized as foreign agents) and Navalny’s headquarters as “extremist organizations”.
