The state unitary enterprise “Mosgortrans” has filed a claim for 1.2 million rubles against the libertarian accused in the “road case” Gleb Maryasov because of the buses that did not enter the routes on 23 January. Public transport that day was taken over by the police, who tried to oppose the protesters in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Mosgortrans, at the request of the Moscow State Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, provided the Ministry of Internal Affairs with 67 LiAZ buses, informs Mediazona, having read the statement of claim. “During the unauthorized rally, the enterprise suffered losses through downtime, traffic delays (loss of flights) of vehicles,” the plaintiff said. Mosgortrans demanded from Maryasov, the only defendant in the case of blocking roads during the protests in Moscow, 1,165,852 rubles in compensation.
September 9, the Moscow Metro also filed a claim by 1.5 million rubles to the libertarian Maryasov due to the additional costs of salaries to employees on the day of the rally.
Former student of the Siberian Federal University Gleb Maryasov was detained on February 22 at the exit from the special detention center, where he was serving 30 days of arrest for participating in a rally. He was assigned a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions: an activist cannot leave the apartment from 20:00 to 08:00, use communications, mail, attend public events and communicate with the persons involved in the case. The libertarian is charged with verbal calls for “a group and close-knit movement of citizens on the carriageway of the streets of the central part of Moscow to block their traffic and block transport.”
On September 9, the second court hearing on the “road case” took place. It was attended by representatives of the “injured party” – the Moscow Metro and “Mosgortrans”. According to the metro management, the action on January 23 caused great damage to the subway due to the “congestion of people at the station” writes Telegram channel “Maryasov without Maryasov”. At the same time, “none of the participants in the trial could clearly explain what the crime committed by Gleb consists of or provide evidence of its commission.”
Recall that on January 23 and 31, as well as on February 2, rallies were held throughout Russia in support of the arrested opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The authorities immediately responded to the protests with massive repression, including searches and mass administrative arrests. In total, more than 11 thousand people were detained in connection with the actions in support of Navalny. In Moscow alone, over 1250 people were subjected to administrative arrest in a month for taking part in protests. Also, about 90 criminal cases were initiated: about attacks on security officials, hooliganism, damage to property, blocking roads, violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules and involvement of minors in illegal actions.
In June, the Moscow City Court recognized the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights and the headquarters of Alexei Navalny as extremist organizations. A law was also passed prohibiting those involved in the work of extremist organizations from participating in elections.
