In Rostov-on-Don, security officials detained Igor Khoroshilov, editor-in-chief of the local newspaper Golos, because of an article he posted on Facebook about Smart Voting. About it writes “OVD-Info” with reference to the public figure Leonid Sankin, about the detention himself Khoroshilov told in social networks.
According to Sankin, officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs Center for Countering Extremism were present during the arrest. Because of the post, Khoroshilov is charged with distributing extremist materials.
The editor-in-chief of “Golos” was taken to the police department No. 7, and his lawyer, Yevgeny Berkovich, went to see him.
September 2 Regional Court of Rostov-on-Don detained and arrested journalist Bella Nasibyan because of a photo published on Instagram with a poster of the Smart Voting project. The photo, which the journalist posted in the story, showed a poster of the candidate for State Duma deputy Alexander Ryabchuk, in whose election campaign the activist participates, as well as other leaflets and posters, among which was a poster with “Smart Vote”.
Nasibyan was found guilty of propaganda of extremist symbols (part 1 of article 20.3 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation). The protocol noted that “Smart Voting” is a project of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK). On September 3, the court released the journalist from arrest, replacing the arrest with an administrative fine.
June 9, 2021 Moscow City Court admitted FBK is an extremist organization. Now the activities of the foundation are officially banned, and its members and even just supporters, according to the new law, will not be able to be elected to the legislative bodies of all levels for several years. Previously, FBK was recognized as an organization performing the role of a foreign agent. On September 1, it became known that FBK had ceased to exist as a legal entity.
