Pussy Riot participant Maria Alekhina was asked to restrict her freedom for two years on a “sanitary case”

The prosecutor’s office requested two years of restriction of freedom for a member of the punk group Pussy Riot Maria Alekhina, who was accused of a “sanitary case”. About it informs “Apology of protest” with reference to the lawyer Daniil Berman.

The activist is demanded to be guilty of incitement to violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules, which created a threat of a massive COVID disease (part 1 of article 236 of the Criminal Code). She has been under house arrest since January; in July, the court extended her preventive measure until 2022. She does not admit her guilt.

The so-called “sanitary case” was initiated after a protest in support of Navalny on January 23. By versions Investigators, associates of the opposition and activists called on people on social networks to participate in an opposition rally on Pushkin Square in Moscow, thus creating a threat of coronavirus infection.

In total, 11 people were involved in the “sanitary case”, among them: the brother of Alexei Navalny Oleg, FBK lawyer Love Sable, press secretary of Navalny Kira Yarmysh, Pussy Riot activist Maria Alekhina; head of the Alliance of Doctors, Anastasia Vasilyeva. The courts passed sentences to seven oppositionists, mostly they received from one to one and a half years of restriction of freedom.
