Major General Ruslan Alakhverdiev, Deputy Chief of the RF Engineering Troops, was taken into custody as part of a criminal investigation into corruption. According to the investigation, the general received bribes from construction companies that were contractors under government contracts. According to him, to date, the amount of bribes transferred, according to the investigation, to Alakhverdiyev, is 8 million rubles. “In the course of the investigation, the amount of the imputed bribes is likely to increase,” the source added.
Earlier, a source of Interfax said that a case was initiated against General Alakhverdiev under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: Part 6 of Art. 290 (taking bribes on an especially large scale) and Part 1 of Art. 285 (abuse of office).
According to the interlocutor, the criminal case was opened at the end of July, and active investigative actions are underway. “It is not excluded that the colleagues of a high-ranking military man from the leadership of the service will become the new defendants in the case,” the source said.
The general is taken into custody. “By a court decision, Alakhverdiev was arrested back in August and is currently in one of the pre-trial detention centers in Moscow,” the source explained.
