The Moscow City Court mitigated the punishment for the leader of the movement “For New Socialism” Nikolai Platoshkin, sentenced in May to five years probation in the case of spreading fakes and inciting riots. About it informs press service of the court.

In addition, the politician reduced the amount of the fine by 200 thousand rubles – instead of 700 thousand, he will be obliged to pay 500 thousand rubles. The prosecutor initially asked for him six years in prison.

He was accused of inciting to riots (part 1.1 of article 212 of the Criminal Code) and “public dissemination of knowingly false information” (article 207.1 of the Criminal Code). According to the UK, the leader of the movement “For a New Socialism” urged people to participate in protests and violate the requirements of self-isolation imposed by the pandemic. Platoshkin did not admit his guilt. “Memorial” admitted to his political prisoners.
Nikolai Platoshkin is a former employee of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy, Moscow State University.
