Russia demands the release of the President of Guinea Alfa Conde and the provision of his immunity, stated on Monday at the Russian Foreign Ministry. Earlier in this African country, there was a military coup. Conde, 83, ruled Guinea for 11 years and amended the Constitution last year to “Zero” their presidential terms.

“Moscow opposes any attempt at an unconstitutional change of government,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. – We demand the release of Condé, ensuring his immunity. We consider it necessary to return the situation in Guinea to a constitutional track as soon as possible. “

The Russian Foreign Ministry “urged” all Guinean political forces “to refrain from actions that could provoke further violence.” Moscow advises “to work towards a peaceful settlement of the current situation through negotiations.”

The diplomatic department added that the whereabouts of Conde are currently unknown.

“According to the information of the Russian Embassy in Conakry, there are no injured Russians in Guinea, all necessary measures are being taken to ensure their safety. We recommend that Russian citizens refrain from traveling to the Republic of Guinea until the situation is completely normalized, ”the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the visit of Guinean Foreign Minister Ibrahim Khalil Kaba to Russia scheduled for this week had been canceled due to the internal situation in the African country.

The visit of the Guinean minister was expected on September 6-8, his talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov were planned, transfers Interfax.

On September 5, the Guinean military announced the seizure of power in the country. They arrested Guinean President Alpha Conde. Later, the military announced the closure of the borders, the dissolution of the government and parliament, and the suspension of the Constitution.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Alpha Conde at his residence in Novo-Ogaryovo in 2017. Then the Russian leader presented the Order of Friendship to the President of Guinea and received the Order of the Grand Cross in response. After negotiations, it was announced that Russia wrote debts of African countries for $ 20 billion.
