Police stopped soccer match between Brazil and Argentina over 4 players suspected of violating quarantine rules

Athletes arriving in Brazil from the UK were required to undergo a 14-day quarantine. According to Anvisa, the players in question provided immigration officials with false information, saying that they had not visited the UK recently.

Anvisa had previously turned to law enforcement to detain the players at the hotel and then deport them, but by the time the police arrived at the hotel, all four players had already left on the bus for the game.

Later, the South American Football Confederation officially announced the suspension of the 2022 World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina. “The referee and the match commissioner will submit a report to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, which will determine further actions,” the confederation said in a statement.
