The number of road accidents involving electric scooters in Russia for seven months of this year has increased by 66%, and the number of deaths in them has quadrupled. In total, there were almost 270 such accidents on the roads, the victims of which were eight people, another 275 were injured, transfers TASS with reference to the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
From January to July 2021, 266 accidents involving electric scooters occurred in Russia, while a year earlier their number did not exceed 160. The number of such accidents with children almost doubled – from 21 to 38.
Among the eight people killed in an electric scooter accident in 2021, there was one child, and 39 children were injured. Last year, in similar incidents during the same period, two people died, and 164 were injured (almost 70% less).
St. Petersburg (58), Moscow (55), Krasnodar Territory (21), Tatarstan (12) and Moscow region (11) became the leaders in the number of accidents with electric scooters.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recalled that the status of personal mobility devices, which include electric scooters, has not yet been determined; the Ministry of Transport is developing the corresponding draft government decree.
Earlier in Moscow, the speed of electric scooters was limited to 25 km / h, in St. Petersburg – to 20 km / h.
