“Jacob Anthony Chansley <...> pleaded guilty <...> to involvement in crimes related to the invasion of the Capitol on January 6, as a result of which the meeting of the US Congress was interrupted, during which the votes were confirmed and counted in the presidential elections … According to the law, Chansley faces up to 20 years in prison with supervised release, ”the ministry said in a statement. The verdict will be delivered on November 17.

Chansley’s lawyer Albert Watkins called for the defendant to be released before the verdict was announced. He has no criminal record, he was not the organizer of the riots and did not commit violent actions in their course, Watkins said. Before the hearing, the lawyer said that Chansley is “a peaceful person with real psychological problems”, because of which he fell under the influence of conspiracy theories.

On January 6, 2021, supporters of Donald Trump after the rally broke into the Capitol, where a meeting of both houses of Congress was held. The Senate and House of Representatives confirmed the electoral votes, which in December confirmed the victory of Trump’s Democrat rival Joe Biden. The storming of the Capitol killed five people, including a police officer who was killed was a San Diego Air Force veteran.

On January 8, it became known that US law enforcement agencies began a criminal investigation into the attack on the Capitol. At the same time, the US Department of Justice estimated the damage that was caused to the Capitol during the assault on January 6, 2021, at $ 1.5 million.

Chansley, 33, was arrested on January 9, charged the same day, and has been in custody ever since. Supporters of the QAnon movement believe in a secret world government that kidnaps children and see Trump as the savior of the world.
