The Russian authorities have introduced the Turkish service GetContact, which allows you to identify a user by a phone number, in registry organizers of information dissemination, informs Roskomsvoboda.
Now, in accordance with the provisions of the “Yarovaya package” (374-FZ), application owners will be required to collect and store user data and provide them to special services upon request.
The GetContact application, which was launched in 2017 by Turkish businessmen Mustafa Senich and Burak Saglyk, requests access to the user’s phone book and collects the names with which the person’s number was recorded on other devices. This data forms the base stored on the company’s server.
In 2018, the service became the most popular app in terms of downloads in the Russian App Store. As of September 2021, GetContact has been downloaded over 150 million times.
