Ranked among the best universities in the world, composed British magazine Times Higher Education, included 60 Russian universities. This is a record for the entire existence of the rating, writes TASS.
A total of 1,662 universities from 99 countries and regions were included in the list. The first line was taken by the University of Oxford (Great Britain) for the sixth year in a row, the second was shared by two US universities – the California Institute of Technology and Harvard University. Stanford University closed the top three.
The leader among Russian universities was the Moscow State University (MSU) named after M.V. Lomonosov. This year, the country’s main university has climbed 16 positions and took 158th place in the overall ranking. In addition, Moscow State University is the only Russian university to make it to the top 200 of the list.
According to the magazine, the top ten universities in the country also included: Higher School of Economics, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, MEPhI, Russian University of Economics. Plekhanov, Don State Technical University, Tomsk State University and MISiS.
All world universities were assessed according to 13 criteria, combined into five groups: citation of scientific articles, contribution to innovation, income from research activities, quality of teaching, degree of university globality (the ability to attract qualified employees and foreign students).
In June, the ranking of the best universities in Russia presented Forbes. First place on the list, like the year previously, took the Higher School of Economics. HSE was ahead of Moscow State University due to the higher average passing score of the USE, a better ratio of the number of teachers and students, and a younger workforce. MEPhI took the third place in the rating of the magazine.
