Poland has introduced a state of emergency on the border with Belarus due to the situation with illegal migrants. The decree was signed by the President of the country Andrzej Duda, reported press secretary of the head of state Blazhei Spikhalskiy.
The document will come into force after its official publication. It will also be considered by the parliament, which can reverse the decision.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers asked to introduce a special regime to Duda. The state of emergency will be valid for 30 days with the possibility of extension.
According to the latest data, since the beginning of August, Polish border guards have recorded more than three thousand attempts to illegally enter the country; while for the whole of 2020 there were only 120 of them.
Recently, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland have announced an increase in the number of detained illegal migrants at the border with Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko explained that Minsk will no longer restrain their flow to the EU countries: because of the Western sanctions, there is “neither money, nor strength” for this. At the same time, there are numerous evidences that the Belarusian side is forcibly expelling illegal immigrants to the EU countries.
Earlier today, the ex-Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius published a fresh video showing that Belarusian border guards with shields and dogs are driving illegal immigrants to the Lithuanian border.
