An experimental Il-112V military transport aircraft crashed in the Moscow region as a result of an engine fire. This is the conclusion reached by experts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), writes Kommersant.

According to the newspaper, a critical situation on board was caused by a powerful “kerosene” fire that arose a few minutes after takeoff. Il-112 went into an uncontrolled lateral roll due to the breakage of the destroyed thrust of the right aileron.

The problems of the aircraft began with the loss of gas-dynamic stability of the right engine, followed by a surge (stall operation of the engine), accompanied by flame emissions, experts found. Most likely, it led to the destruction of the turbine, and its fragments could interrupt the fuel lines.

As “Kommersant” specifies, the first fire in the engine was noticed not by the pilots, but by the dispatchers of the Kubinka airfield. The crew was informed of the fire, while in the cockpit a warning panel of the danger lit up and the so-called first stage of the fire extinguishing system worked.

According to experts, the pilots could have landed a burning plane in Kubinka, but their efforts were in vain, since the aircraft itself “surrendered”. So, 45 seconds after the start of the fire, the temperature in the cavity of the right wing reached 600 degrees, after which, as the investigators found, the duralumin thrust of the aileron going inside collapsed.

August 17, the newest military transport aircraft Il-112V crashed during a training flight at the Kubinka airfield near Moscow. The plane’s right engine caught fire during the landing approach, after which it crashed into the ground in a forest belt near the village of Nikolskoye. On board were three crew members, including Hero of Russia Nikolai Kuimov. Putin posthumously awarded pilots with the Orders of Courage.
