The Central District Court of Barnaul declared prohibited the information contained on the website of the American online store iHerb, popular in Russia. The claim was filed by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Central District of the city. About it report “Vedomosti”.
The prosecutor’s office filed a statement of claim based on the appeal of the Altai regional public organization of consumers “People’s Control”, which is headed by the deputy of the regional parliament from “United Russia” Nikolai Yakushev.
According to the sources of the publication, in his appeal, Yakushev indicated that the iHerb website contains information on the free sale and delivery of goods to the territory of Russia that contain narcotic and psychotropic substances, homeopathic medicines under the guise of dietary supplements without registration certificates for the drug, as well as special food for athletes, the import of which is prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation without special permission from the Ministry of Sports. In total, “Narodny Kontrol” counted on the iHerb website more than 2000 items that violate Russian laws, but not all of them were included in the statement of claim. The prosecutor’s office agreed with the organization’s position and filed a suit.
The court’s decision has not yet entered into force and can be appealed to the appellate instance. If it comes into force, then the site may be blocked on the territory of Russia.
In 2016, the site was blocked for two months for the sale of nuts and berries from the United States without “data on their safety for health.” In the spring of 2020, the Ulyanovsk Regional Court satisfied the prosecutor’s claim and ordered iHerb to remove the mobile application for Russian users.
In mid-June, a representative of iHerb told Vedomosti that the company intends to invest 1.5 billion rubles. in the registration of products in Russia. According to him, such a measure will allow the company to sell its products, including in Russian pharmacies, said the representative.
