The Prosecutor General’s Office has recorded a record number of corruption crimes in 8 years

The Prosecutor General’s Office has recorded a record number of detected corruption crimes in eight years, half of which are bribes. About it reported on the website of the departmental portal of legal statistics.

The officially registered number of detected corruption-related crimes in the current year is 24.5 thousand. Compared to the same period last year, their number increased by 16.5%.

The facts of bribery accounted for 12.1 thousand cases. For 7 months, their number increased by 27.4% compared to the same period in 2020. Moreover, in every third case the size of the bribe did not exceed 10 thousand rubles, and the total number of cases of small bribes increased by 26%.

By August, the amount of damage increased from 32.4 billion rubles to 39.4 billion rubles compared to the same period last year.

Most of the corruption crimes were registered in Perm (240 cases, an increase of 3.3 times), Stavropol (169, an increase of 1.5 times) and St. Petersburg (135, an increase of 5 times).

As noted in the Prosecutor General’s Office, in general in Russia, the trend towards an increase in the total array of economic crimes continues. For 7 months of this year, their number increased by almost 7 thousand compared to the same period in 2020, exceeding 78 thousand cases. Material damage from them amounted, according to preliminary estimates, 171.8 billion rubles.
