At least nine refineries in the US state of Louisiana have been suspended or cut back in the wake of Hurricane Ida. About it informs CNN.

ExxonMobil said its plant was not badly damaged, but some operations were still suspended. Shell said it is still assessing the damage and cannot yet say when the plant will resume operation. The company began closing its facilities in the state last week. Marathon Petroleum also cannot say when the plant will resume operations.

According to the US Department of Energy, the shutdown of the factories should not lead to problems with supplies, since the stocks of gasoline and distillates on the coast of the Mexican Gulf are now slightly above the seasonal average.

Earlier it became known that because of the hurricane “Ida” more than a million people were left without electricity. The hurricane also completely de-energized Louisiana’s most populous city, New Orleans.

Hurricane of the fourth category “Ida” collapsed to Louisiana on Sunday morning. By now, he has weakened to the first category of five possible and continues to move inland. At the time the hurricane reached the coast of the state, the wind speed reached 150 miles per hour (over 240 km / h). The hurricane was assigned the fourth category out of five.

“Ida” hit Louisiana on the 16th anniversary of another permitting hurricane – “Katrina”, which killed more than 1.8 thousand people. It took several years to rebuild New Orleans from the flood. Katrina was assigned category 3, the most destructive hurricane in the history of the United States.
