The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia issued a warning to Apple for “abuse of dominant position” in the iOS app market. About it reported in the press service of the department.
According to the Federal Antimonopoly Service, the company “prohibits informing buyers of applications in the AppStore about alternative payment methods” and requires developers to remove links to third-party resources from their mobile applications.
A complaint against Apple was filed by users and developers who indicated that in some cases, a product – for example, an e-book – can be bought cheaper on the seller’s website, and then read on Apple devices. The reason they said is that Apple takes a commission of 15 to 30% on each payment. At the same time, the company does not provide data on alternative payment methods.
“By these actions, Apple restricts developers in independent behavior, which negatively affects competition and may lead to an increase in prices for [их] products “, – reported in the FAS. In this regard, Apple must eliminate violations no later than the end of September.
In April, the authorities fined Apple for $ 12 million in the case of restricting competition in the application market in the AppStore. The case against the American IT giant was initiated back in September 2019. The reason was a complaint from Kaspersky Lab, which accused Apple of unreasonably rejecting versions of the Safe Kids parental control program.
