Russian swimmer Valeria Shabalina won the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in the 200m freestyle, transfers TASS. The athlete finished with a time of 2 minutes 3.71 seconds. Second and third places went to British athletes Bethany Firth and Jessica-Jane Applegate.
This is Shabalina’s second gold medal at the Paralympics. August 25 she became first at a distance of 100 meters butterfly. Another Russian woman Daria Pikalova also won a silver medal in swimming at a distance of 100 m. The swimmer completed the standard in 1 minute 8.76 seconds.
The athletes competed in the S12 and S14 categories (intellectual disabilities). Russian swimmer Vyacheslav Emelyanov also previously took third place (bronze) in the 200-meter freestyle. Thus, the Russian team, which has 15 medals, is currently ranked third in the Paralympic Games ranking.
