Many Russian universities, including leading ones, were unable to recruit the required number of freshmen and announced an additional enrollment. About it informs Kommersant.
Thus, several faculties of Moscow State University announced additional enrollment for paid places, including the Faculty of Journalism, the Faculties of Psychology, Philosophy, Law and Geography. Irkutsk and Sevastopol State Universities also announced an additional enrollment. The Voronezh State Technical University told the publication that additional budget places are in extreme demand: in one of the specialties, the competition is 27 people per place.
A number of universities in the capital have announced additional admissions. This happens when an applicant for some reason withdraws his documents. The vacated places are accepted by those who could not pass on points during the main competition. Additional enrollment was reported, in particular, by MIPT, MGSU, MIET, NRU MEI and MADI, some of them are ready to take applicants to budget places.
The experts interviewed by the publication are sure that the new admission rules have led to such a unique situation. “The applicants didn’t believe that they would get on the budget, and submitted their applications at least somewhere,” said Pavel Kudyukin, co-chairman of the “University Solidarity” trade union.
Previously, admission to the university took place in three stages. First, winners of school Olympiads and holders of other benefits were admitted. Then other applicants sent the USE results to a maximum of five selected universities and waited for the preliminary lists of those who could apply for admission to be published there. On the most popular destinations, all places were immediately occupied by high-scores. However, then they identified with the university and took the original documents there, after which they disappeared from the lists of other universities. And applicants with lower scores in the second wave could stay on the list and wait to climb up, taking positions vacated by high-scorers, or take their documents to another university where they exactly passed.
This year the second wave was canceled. Instead, applicants were allowed to apply for more directions: for example, you can try your hand at ten faculties at the university, and not at three, as before. But before admission, applicants must decide and confirm their consent only at one faculty in one university.
