The Bell reported in his Telegram channel that on August 25, his website stopped working due to an external attack. Now, according to data at 20:05 Moscow time, the publication’s website is still not available.

“The Bell site was unavailable this afternoon, and access problems persist. The reason was an external attack, the source and goals of which are still unclear to us, ”the message says.

Representatives of The Bell noted that they are additionally strengthening the protection of their servers in order to avoid such incidents as much as possible. The Bell’s mailing lists go out as usual, the newspaper said.

Mid august became knownthat unknown persons tried to hack into the phone of The Bell journalist Irina Pankratova. They ordered a detailing of her calls and SMS messages at the Megafon office using a fake notarized power of attorney. Pankratova herself then suggested that someone wants to track down the sources of her information. The correspondent wrote, in particular, about the underground business online casino and son-in-law Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

This year, the authorities have stepped up pressure on independent media. Thus, in the spring, the Ministry of Justice declared Meduza and VTimes to be “foreign agents”. VTimes then closed. In July “Project” became the first media to be recognized as an “undesirable organization”. On August 20, the Ministry of Justice added to the list of “foreign agents” making in it “Rain” and “Important stories”. Total in registry today there are 43 persons, among them: The Insider, employees of Project, Open Media, Radio Liberty and other media.
