The laying of “Nord Stream 2” in the waters of the Federal Republic of Germany by the ship “Fortuna” should be completed by September 12 this year. About it informs TASS, citing Bloomberg data provided by the German maritime authorities.
According to the portal Marine Traffic, which shows in real time the current location of ships in harbors and ports, the pipe-laying vessel “Fortuna” is now in the territorial waters of the Federal Republic of Germany. It previously operated in Danish waters. At the moment, Nord Stream 2 is 99% complete.
On July 21, the United States and Germany published an agreement on the Nord Stream 2 project, under which Washington acknowledged that sanctions would not stop its implementation, and Berlin pledged to seek an extension of the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
At the same time, Berlin will advocate further sanctions against Moscow if the Russian authorities use the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as a weapon. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said this in Kiev at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“We take the concern of the Ukrainian side very seriously, and therefore during the talks in Moscow I spoke about this problem, and we very clearly said that we, within the European framework, are in favor of new sanctions if Russia tries to use this gas pipeline for the purpose ( geopolitical) weapons, “Merkel said, Interfax reports.
Merkel stressed the importance of Ukraine remaining a gas transit country beyond 2024. She pointed to Germany’s desire for the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, which expires in 2024, to be extended as soon as possible.
At the same time, according to the Chancellor, Kiev is expected to allocate 1 billion euros in aid for the development of renewable energy.
