US President Joe Biden issued a decree on August 20 allowing the country’s authorities to impose new sanctions against Russia’s energy projects, including the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

Thanks to the decree, it will be possible to block the property of foreign persons assisting in the construction of the Russian gas pipeline, Biden said. He gave US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen the authority to make appropriate decisions after consulting with the country’s Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters. m of gas per year passes from the Slavyanskaya compressor station in the Kingiseppsky district of the Leningrad region to the Baltic coast of Germany. The total length of the highway along two lines is 2,460 km. The laying of the first string was completed at the beginning of June.
