The death toll in the earthquake in Haiti increased to 2,189, more than 12 thousand people were injured. About it informs Associated Press (AP) citing the Haitian Civil Protection Authority.
According to AP, currently rescuers continue to search for people who may be under the rubble. Dozens of citizens are reported missing.
An earthquake of magnitude 7.2, followed by several aftershocks, struck off the coast of Haiti on the morning of 14 August. A state of emergency has been declared in the country. More than 60,000 houses were completely destroyed, and another 76,000 buildings were damaged.
Earlier it became known that the European Union allocated humanitarian aid to Haiti in the amount of € 3 million. It will be distributed among the humanitarian organizations operating in the country dealing with the aftermath of the earthquake.
