Panic began to spread in Kabul on Sunday, when it became clear that the authorities were ready to surrender the capital to Taliban fighters without a fight. In banks and ATMs, cash disappeared, which was taken apart by customers, and huge traffic jams formed on the streets from those who wanted to leave. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled. It was reported that he flew by plane to Tajikistan. On the evening of August 15, militants occupied the presidential palace. Diplomatic missions of many countries began to evacuate their employees from Afghanistan, but Russian diplomats remained in Kabul.
