The number of victims of the earthquake in Haiti has exceeded 700, hundreds of people remain under the rubble

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 struck about 125 km west of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince on the afternoon of August 14. The epicenter was 6 miles (about 9.65 km) deep.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry previously announced that he would not seek international assistance until the final clarification of the aftermath of the earthquake, while he confirmed that some cities have been completely razed to the ground, and hospitals are overflowing with wounded and mutilated people under the rubble. The International Red Cross and hospitals from the unaffected provinces will help the victims, the prime minister added.

“We need a huge amount of help. We must take care of the injured and maimed, provide food, help, temporary shelter and psychological support, ”Henry said.

Meanwhile, the United States sent a 65-person search and rescue team to Haiti, as well as specialized equipment and medical supplies. This was announced on Twitter by the head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power.
