A resident of St. Petersburg was sentenced to 4.6 years in a penal colony in the case of using violence against security officials at a rally on January 23

The Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg found the participant of the January action in support of Alexei Navalny Nikolai the Devyaty guilty under the article on “using violence against a representative of the authorities” (part 2 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and appointed 4.6 years in a general regime colony, transfers Fontanka.

In addition, the court ruled to recover 150 thousand rubles from the convicted person in favor of the victims as compensation for moral damage.

“The court sentenced him to 4.5 years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony. On account of compensation for moral harm from the Ninth, 150 thousand rubles were collected in favor of each victim, ”the press service of the court said.

As the newspaper notes, the seven months spent by Devyatov in the pre-trial detention center will be credited to him in the served term as a day and a half. The prosecutor demanded six years’ imprisonment for the convicted person. The convict admitted his guilt.

Nikolai Devyaty on the morning of January 23, 2021, broke through the police cordon for the rally in support of Alexei Navalny and knocked out a traffic police officer, who fell to the asphalt from the blow. Then, running away from the scene, the convict hit another policeman.

On January 23, 31 and February 2, protests were held throughout Russia demanding the release of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. More than 10 thousand people were detained on them.

In addition to mass arrests, there were also recorded cases of the use of violence against protesters by the security forces. In particular, a resident of St. Petersburg, Margarita Yudina, was kicked in the stomach by one of the siloviki, and she flew a meter away from him and fell on her back. The woman approached the security officer with the question: “Why did you grab him, guys?”

By data “OVD-Info”, the number of people detained throughout the country at the rally on January 23 was at least 3711 people. In Moscow alone, there were about 15 thousand people at the rally in support of Navalny, counted “White counter”.
