World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus has called for a temporary moratorium on the introduction of the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine in order to send more vaccines to those countries whose citizens have not received a single dose. About it informs Interfax
“WHO is calling for a moratorium on revaccination at least until the end of September to enable at least 10% of the population of each country to be vaccinated,” Gebreyesus said.
The head of WHO believes that it would be advisable to introduce a moratorium in rich countries, in which most of the population has already been able to receive both doses of the vaccine. “We need the cooperation of everyone, especially those countries and companies that control the global supply of vaccines,” said Gebreyesus. He urged G-20 countries to commit to meeting the global targets for COVID-19 vaccination.
Earlier in Israel, France, Germany and many countries in the Middle East, they have already announced that they will begin to administer the third dose of the vaccine to fully vaccinated residents. Also, this idea is considered by the United States and the United Kingdom as one of the ways to combat the spread of the more dangerous and infectious strain of the delta coronavirus.
