The state prosecution asked the court to impose a one-year suspended sentence on the brother of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Oleg, in the case of incitement to violate sanitary and epidemiological rules during the January 23 rally in Moscow. About it reported his lawyer Nikos Paraskevov.
“The prosecutor requested for Oleg Navalny one year suspended sentence with a probation period of three years,” Paraskevov said.
Recall that rallies in support of Alexei Navalny, who was arrested after his return to Russia, were held on January 23 in many cities of the country, including Moscow. After the action, several criminal cases were opened, including violations of sanitary and epidemiological rules, the use of violence against government officials and hooliganism.
Initially, 10 defendants were involved in the case, including Oleg Navalny, Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmysh, Pussy Riot participant Maria Alekhina, FBK lawyer Lyubov Sobol and others.
August 3 court in Moscow sentenced Lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Foundation Lyubov Sobol to one and a half years of restriction of freedom. The court forbade Sobol to leave his home from 22:00 to 6:00, attend mass events, and travel outside Moscow and the Moscow region. Also, Sobol should be registered three times a month at the FSIN department at the place of residence. The lawyer said that the court’s decision will be appealed.
