The Organizing Committee of the Tokyo Olympic Games has stripped eight athletes of their accreditation to participate in the competition, informs RBC.

We are talking about athletes from Georgia who voluntarily left the Olympic Village and thereby violated the coronavirus restrictions established by the Games Organizing Committee.

“At the moment, there are 10 cases of strict warnings issued to violators, and four cases where violators were required to sign an agreement on additional measures. And eight revoked accreditations, ”said Toshiro Muto, executive director of the organizing committee.

In a conversation with Japan Times Muto clarifiedthat the unaccredited athletes from Georgia went outside the Olympic Village to see the sights.

“We canceled accreditation because we believe that leaving the athletes’ village for sightseeing is something that should not happen,” he explained.

For the first time, a resident of the Olympic Village fell ill on July 17. Then the general director of the organizing committee of Tokyo 2020, Toshiro Muto, confirmed that a foreigner from the organizers of the Olympics passed a positive test for the virus, but did not reveal the name and nationality of the sick person.

Earlier it also became known that at least eight employees of the hotel, where members of the Brazilian Olympic judo team live, had a coronavirus. The hotel is located in the Japanese city of Hamamatsu.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo, postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held from July 23 to August 8 with virtually no spectators and in accordance with strict quarantine rules.
