Belarusian runner Kristina Timanovskaya is in a safe place, where she was taken from the police station at the airport, informs NEXTA. She has a refugee lawyer with her. At the same time, the Japanese edition of Sports Hochi citing human rights defenders reportedthat the athlete plans to apply for asylum in Austria. Where exactly Timanovskaya is located is unknown, but she is still in Japan.

Earlier on August 1, it became known that Timanovskaya, a participant in the competition at the Tokyo Olympics, was trying to forcefully take out to Belarus.

“Belarusian athlete Kristina Timanovskaya is forcibly taken out of Tokyo. Representatives of the Belarusian national team are deporting the athlete, they urgently bought a plane ticket for her, and now they are taking her things to the airport. Tomorrow she was supposed to start at 200 meters, the representatives of the national team did not allow her and sent her to Minsk, ”the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Fund said in a statement.

However, the National Olympic Committee of Belarus reported that Timanovskaya was being sent home “due to her emotional and psychological state.”

On August 2, Timanovskaya was supposed to start at 200 meters. Earlier, she criticized the leadership of the national team for being announced for the 4×400 meter relay, while the athlete had already been announced at a distance of 100 and 200 meters. After that, Timanovskaya was criticized by all pro-government Telegram channels and state television.

Note that on July 29, Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarusian athletes do not win, because if they win, they will know that “they will get everything.”

“Why are the results like this? Because they know that if they win the Olympics, the World Championships, then they will have everything. If they do not win, they will stagger somewhere, look for a piece of bread. And we support everyone, ”Belsat quoted him as saying.
