Montenegro extradited to Russia the rector of the Altai branch of the Leningrad State University named after Pushkin Vyacheslav Skvortsov, who is accused of embezzlement on a large scale. About it informs Interfax with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia.
On July 30, Skvortsov will be delivered to Russia accompanied by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Bureau of Interpol.
According to the investigation, from 2014 to 2017, Skvortsov, together with the director of the branch, using their official position, spent the university’s funds in the amount of 2 million 491 thousand 333 rubles. The investigation believes that they transferred this amount to personal current accounts under the guise of paying for civil law contracts (contracts for the provision of services for a fee), which were not actually concluded or executed.
Skvortsov is charged under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement on an especially large scale).
“Since Skvortsov fled from criminal prosecution and left the territory of the Russian Federation, on behalf of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation in February 2021, he was put on the international wanted list,” the message says.
In March 2021, he was detained on the territory of Montenegro, after which the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia sent a request to Montenegro to extradite the accused to Russia.
