Air carrier S7 Group creates a new low-cost airline. About it informs RBC with reference to the shareholder of the concern Tatyana Fileva.
The first aircraft of the new airline will fly in July 2022. The low-cost airline will operate flights on A320 neo aircraft, the passenger traffic is expected to reach 7.8 million people per year.
“These will be inter-regional flights, bypassing Moscow. We will now negotiate with the airports, ”Fileva said. At the same time, details about the airline’s route network were not disclosed.
It is reported that the project will be implemented on the basis of the former Globus airline, which operated flights under the S7 Airlines brand. In November 2020, the Federal Air Transport Agency canceled the Globus operator’s certificate, now it will be restored. The company has two Boeing 737 MAXs.
Against the background of the crisis in the industry due to the coronavirus pandemic, S7 ended 2020 with a net loss of 5.2 billion rubles against a net profit of 2.6 billion rubles at the end of 2019.
As the newspaper notes, the start of the S7 Group project to create a low-cost airline is taking place against the backdrop of repeated statements by the Minister of Transport and the ex-head of Aeroflot, Vitaly Savelyev, in favor of airlines with this model. So, at SPIEF this year, he noted that “all world trends show the development of low-cost transportation <...>. We will try to create another low-cost airline in the middle lane, which will help the mobility of the population and significantly reduce the cost of transportation ”.
