According to Alexandra Logvinova, head of the external relations department of Tikhanovskaya’s office, the lack of medical assistance to political prisoners is used as a way of repression and pressure on people:

Medicines are not given to prisoners on a regular basis, beaten people can be placed in a small cell, where they cannot even lie down, and kept there for days without treatment and dressing of wounds. Civilian doctors do not have access to the system. This helps to hide the crimes of the regime: we still do not know the circumstances of the death of Vitold Ashurk, who was given to relatives with a bandaged head, ”she said.

Tikhanovskaya’s team called on the international organization Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières to delegate their representatives to the CIP, ITTs and prisons in Belarus. “Only our attention, riveted to this problem with the help of the media, statements and pressure from international partners, affects the regime. Most of all, he is afraid of publicity and truth, and it is in our power to use this lever, ”Logvinova said in a statement.

According to official data, since the beginning of the pandemic, 437 thousand coronavirus infections and 3.3 thousand deaths due to infection have been recorded in Belarus. Over the past day, 1,069 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the country.
