The Ministry of Health confirmed the existence of a closed registry dedicated to the coronavirus, but said that it contains records of more than just cases. About it informs Kommersant.

As the ministry told Kommersant, the data on the cases cited in the investigation is “nothing more than fantasy”. The Ministry of Health confirmed that they are conducting a federal information resource on the coronavirus, but in addition to those who are sick with coronavirus, they include data on patients with pneumonia, vaccinated and representatives of other unnamed “categories.” The department noted that as of July 21, the list had 39 million entries.

“At the same time, the unique number of the register record is not an end-to-end serial number – the algorithm for its formation is nonlinear and takes into account several factors,” the Ministry of Health added.

As a reminder, at the beginning of the week, Meduza, Mediazona and Kholod published joint investigation, which said that statistics on coronavirus cases in Russia can be underestimated five times.

The investigation was based on a closed registry of the Ministry of Health, created to track those who have recovered from the coronavirus. The authors of the investigative journalism received data on the number of entries in the register of the Ministry of Health based on the numbers of QR codes that were given to people who have undergone COVID-19.
