The tax will be introduced from January 1, 2022. It will be levied in lieu of the airport tax on everyone except children under two years of age and persons with diplomatic immunity.
Economy class passengers will pay $ 30 per flight, but if they are citizens of the Maldives – $ 12. All business class passengers, regardless of citizenship, will pay $ 60, first class passengers – $ 90. Private jet passengers will be charged $ 120 each, reported Raajje portal.
In addition, all passengers departing from Velana International Airport (MLE) will be subject to an airport development tax of $ 25. It will start charging before the end of 2021.
Tax can only be paid in US dollars. If a person does not have this opportunity, he can pay the fee through the airline.
Tourists in the Maldives now pay an airport tax of $ 15.
